waysideviolet - cozy, lovely things

happy christmas & merry new year!

Hello, dear blog.  How have you been?  I know its been a while.  Sorry about that.  Christmas has been fun and crazy busy.  Here’s a little look at what I have been up to.

Things I have done:

  • Drove to WV in an ice storm.
  • Went to a Christmas Eve service.
  • Went to Christmas morning mass and then opened presents.
  • Had breakfast at First Watch with Lauren and Stephen.
  • Hung out at Taylor’s with Lauren.
  • Went to Cincinnati to visit cousins and go to Ikea.
  • Had coffee, scones & conversation with Anna J.
  • Met Andrew and Lauren for lunch at Bluegrass Kitchen and took lots of Polaroids.
  • Knit lots of coffee cup cozies.  (Pictures to come.)
  • Watched the entire first season of Chuck with the family.
  • Went on a few shopping trips with mom and Courtney.

Things I gave:

  • A vintage Kiev camera to Joel.
  • A painting to mom.
  • Books and a sewing kit to Courtney.
  • Electronics for dad.
  • Other (hopefully) nice things…

Joel and his Kiev.

Things I got:

  • A cute typewriter key (an L) ring from Joel.
  • A scone pan (love it!) from mom and dad.
  • An Ikea desk from mom and dad.  (Can’t wait to set up my studio/office area!)
  • Lots of wonderful films Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Persepolis & Pride and Prejudice (the good one).
  • Some cute clothes.
  • A beautiful leather portfolio from Joel.  (Love it!!)
  • Other lovely things…

Tomorrow Joel and I will be flying out of Charleston and heading to Detroit for a mini second Christmas with his family and to celebrate his great-grandma’s 100th birthday.  Cors is going to stay here.  He’s been having a lot of fun running around my parents backyard. We’ll fly back to West Virginia on Sunday and drive back home on Monday.  Its been a nice long break.

I came across this quilt the other day and I can’t wait to make a similar one!  Speaking of making things, I have some exciting plans for the new year.  I’ll write more when the preparations are further along.
