I have been coveting one of Margaux’s exquisite handmade journals ever since I first came across her shop, The Black Spot Books.
Q. Could you tell us a little about yourself?
A little about myself? Which little? I love The Fall. The smell of the air and the way it kind of rearranges who I am. I love the sounds the leaves make on their way down. I love dreaming of wandering into it. and I generally follow my dreams.
Q. When did you begin making books?
I started making books when I was 6 or so. Cirsis Actors, For Mummy, was my first, bound and illustrated (there were no words). Next was Going to the Zoo. I made this one in 1984, bound illustrated AND written. If you go to www.theblackspotbooks.com, and search for the X behind the rock, you can see it page by page! But books like a make now? That started in 2002 maybe, 2003.
Q. Your shop is so lovely! What is your creative process like?
My creative process involves digging through junk. It involves wandering. It involves reading. It involves chance. Travel. Necessity. Also, it involves the shower.
Q. What’s a normal day in your life like?
I do not have a normal day. No schedules. Every day is different and I hope it is always like this. Now that it is chilly though, I wake up (Søren usually wakes me up singing or laughing in his crib at the foot of our bed, that is pretty regular!) and scurry down to the kitchen for a warm pilfered bar mug of coffee or tea. And I feed the kitties and Søren. The days where I have things to make I get out of bed faster. This is usually everyday actually. There is never not something to make. My husband is home from war now, after having been away for a year. He works at home too, making things out of olde wood and painting or drawing (and will be starting an Etsy shoppe soon, YAY!) And we dance and bounce around a lot. Søren loves this too. Here, wake up. Drink warm stuff eat. Make stuff. Play. Make stuff eat play. Read. Sleep (not so much, but some).
Q. What inspires you most of all?
Goodness gracious inspiration comes from everywhere. Junk and words and history are the 3 words I shall use to sum it up!

Wow. What a creepy-cool shop. Everything in it gave me the chills. In a good way. A really good way.
I think my favorite was this http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27981150 I could totally find a place for that in my house.
Man. I’m going back to favorite the shop. So good.

My favourite is definitely the library necklace! WANT.
Well, lord, I haunt Maraux’s shop all the time. She is a most lovely friend and unique creative girlie. I’ve been eyeing this gorgeous thing: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27949075. Plus the photos. I want one someday soon. And also the lace rings. Long been a craving of mine, too. Hi M and J:)
I love absolutely everything in Maraux’s shop however this http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=32122863 caught my eye today.
i am half in love with margaux and a little frightened by her…as well as wanting – most days – to wake up as free as she is in her expression. she is a delicious inspiration. if there are degrees of invoking that fire within – and bringing it out just bridled enough to show the world – margaux is the sun.
my favorite of hers is something i have not seen her carry for some time – it is an antique glass ball locket necklace. since then i keep “come wander with me – 2″ in my cart as well as – as luck would have it – the silver lace ring.
her stories ring true.
all best,
beth
All her items are my favorite- but I especially love the miniature library!
Wonderful interview! Margaux is a truly exceptional person!

i love that white bronze version of the lace ring–but all those little books are very cool as well….
Ah, I always have adored this shop and it’s great to see an interview from her! My favourites are the book necklaces (such as “Slow Changes To Species vintage leather with red and white stripes”), but pretty much anything in her store is lovely, including the rings.
I love everything, but my favorite is Ballad of Paladin journal made of leather from turn-of-the-century cowboy chaps
Oh wow, I think my heart lept a little when I saw this giveaway! So many amazing treasures in her store, but I am rather partial to this sweet one http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=32159338
Fingers crossed!
wow – those little book necklaces are pure magic. This is my fave: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=32173010 Fabulous stuff!
I love books, and I think this shop is amazing! The little book necklaces are wonderful! My favorite is:
The Striped Spot II small antique leather and stripes book necklace (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=32225748)
Great interview, Jess!
I really love her shop, and I love these rings!
I also really like the SIlver bone ring.

Whole shop is pretty amazing though.
Thanks for the chance to win.
Margaux is a white sorceress, I think ;) Well, she definitely has some magic!
Hers is is one of my favorite shops, worth a daily visit – needless to say I crave this ring!
I looove this etsy shop! The book necklaces are my absolute fav…but that ring has me swooning for sure. :)
oh my! i simply adore her shop. gorgeous pieces! i love the silver bone ring; it is so interesting and dainty! thank you for the opportunity! :)
I am loving Sorens side scuttle. Round and familiar yet unlike any other book or bauble ive ever seen. The attention to detail is absolutely amazing! I can almost smell the leather from my computer screen. Is it possible to fall in love with an inanimate object.
Someday I will own you.
wonderful Margaux!
My favorite thing is Sorens Side Scuttle BUT the library necklaces are forever wooing me!!! Yay Margaux!!!
