Hello! My name is Anabela and I blog at Fieldguided. Thank you, Jessica, for letting me indulge in a dream day in my city.
I was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and I haven’t lived anywhere else. It’s the perfect size for a city: big enough that you can feel a little anonymous, but small enough that you can bump into a friend or two while out for a walk. I live in a really wonderful neighbourhood next to a park and I love that I can get anywhere I need to be by walking or riding my bike.
My ideal day would be spent on my bike. I’d load my basket in my basket, grab my boyfriend Geoff, and off we would go.
Our first stop would be The Common, our favourite local coffee shop. We’d get two Americanos, medium roast.
We’d head down to Queen West, and stop to say hello to the windowcats, sidewalkcats, and gardencats.
Maybe we could stop for a soft-serve ice cream cone from a truck, which happens to be one of my favourite indulgences.
We’d pop into a few of my favourite shops, such as Virginia Johnson, Robber, the Drake General Store, and The Paper Place.
We would walk around, taking in the sights. Maybe there would be some dogs hanging out on the sidewalk.
Maybe we’d ride back north and end up in Mirvish Village. This is a quiet, student area where the Victorian houses have been converted into shops and restaurants. There are a few good vintage stores around here, including The Refinery and Karen Found It. We’d have burgers and local microbrews at The Victory Cafe for dinner. We’d ride back down to College Street, which by this point would be packed with people sitting on patios, soaking up the sun.
At the end of the day we’d meet some friends for drinks, say at the Double Deuce. It would be a perfect way to wind down a perfect day.
