I love finding shops on Etsy that inspire me to make things as much as they inspire me to buy! I find myself going back to look at Yarmee all the time. Lucia, the talented woman behind Yarmee and Larimeloom, hand spins the most amazing yarn. The beautiful colors and textures have me dreaming of creating beautiful things!
Q. Could you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Maria Lucia Squillari, I am 23 years old and live in the beautiful hills of the north west side of Italy. I love the country, warm weather, crafting, reading, sleeping, taking walks.
Q. How did Yarmee get started?
I started Yarmee a couple years ago, after my growing yarn collection started swamping my other shop Larimeloom, where I sell the clothes I make, my main source of income. The yarns are more of a hobby, a very pleasant pastime, where I get to relax, sit back and let the colors swirl past my fingers. It is a calmer process then designing a garment. There is less hurry, anticipation, excitement. I love spinning :)
Q. Your shop is so lovely! What is your creative process like?
Oh, it’s quite immediate… a combination of the texture of the yarn, the mood of the day, the colors on hand inspire the mix, and once I select the fibers, I set to the spinning wheel. The thickness of the yarn comes from the texture of it, smoother softer yarns usually call for fine, delicate yarns. Frizzier, less carded ones end up bulkier, nubby. I also love to include bits of fabric and silks leftover from the clothes I make in the mix, and plan to do more of that this winter.
Q. What’s a normal day in your life like?
I don’t have much of a schedule… one day it’s one thing, the other it’s another… I have sort of a rhythm down, but not much, and that’s what I love about working for myself, with no boss or office or anything.
Q. What inspires you most of all?
Textures, colors, or the lack of, my mood….

Wow, spinning yarn in the hills of Italy?? That sounds nice.
How cool! I love the ‘Iguana’ yarn- all the greens look so pretty :)
