Last weekend I went through all of my knitting/crafting/making supplies. I sorted out seed beads and sequins and a tangle of felt and threads, and then I found more tiny balls of yarn than I thought could possibly be rolling around this house. I was looking at them all together and then I thought of this photo:

It’s such an adorable idea, I had to try to make one for myself! It turned out so cute and super easy to make!

I used this how-to but altered it to not need a pom pom maker. I need to get some photos taken for each of these steps. We’ve been having a few technical issues here lately – oh computers! I’ll have a photo update soon, promise!

Pom Pom Garland

What you’ll need:
yarn
scissors

There are a ton of nifty little pom pom makers and I secretly want one, but if you don’t have one of those handy contraptions you can use your fingers! Two fingers for a medium pom and three for large poms. I want to make little ones so I only used one finger:

Step one
Gather your yarn and cut a section of yarn about 6 inches long.

Step Two
Wrap the yarn around your finger, but not too tight!  Use your thumb to hold the starting “tail”. Wrap 50 – 70 times.

Step Three
Take your 6 inch piece of yarn and carefully thread it through your wrapped yarn. Tie a few very tight knots.

Step Four
Carefully cut the “loops”.

Step Five
Pinch your pom between your index finger and thumb and trim the stings. Try to trim them as evenly as possible. Fluff. You’ve made your very own pom pom!

Make as many as you like and then string them and hang. You’re ready for a party!

Maybe a movie party with popcorn or better yet, popcorn balls!
