Ever since I first flipped through the TOAST holiday catalogue I have not been able to get their gorgeous paper flower garland out of my head. Maybe that’s why the first thing I thought of when my mom passed on a bolt of red, black and yellow plaid flannel was, “fabric flower garland!” I wanted to make a little something festive but not too pink to spruce up the dinning room for Valentines and so this is what I made…
And here is how I made it…
Gather Supplies:
Fabric
Paper
Scissors
Twine
Needle & Thread
Buttons, Lockets, Charms
Step One:
Cut out two paper circles. One larger and one smaller. Use your circle templates to cut out circles from the fabric. You’ll want an equal number of small and large circles.
Step Three:
Place a small circle on top of a larger circle and hold in place.
Step Four:
Pull your threaded needle through the center of both circles so that the knot is on the front of the flower.
Step Five:
Pull the thread and gather the fabric so that it begins to form a flower-like shape.
Step Six:
Secure the flowers shape on the backside with stitches and knots.
I found that a few stitches along the side helped the flower keep its shape.
Attach buttons, beads, or charms to the center of your flowers if you’d like. Once you have as many flowers as you need/want move on to step 7.
Step Seven:
Attach your flowers to the twine. I attached mine with a few strudy stitches.
String your lockets or charms…
…and voilà!
