I can safely say that The Vamoose is the prettiest, new-to-me jewelry shop I’ve come across in ages. The materials are gorgeous and Kathryn, the shop’s maker and owner, clearly loves what she does. Her pieces are so joyful!
Q. Hello Kathryn! Could you tell us a little about yourself?
Hello! I’m 24, living in a small town in West Yorkshire, England where I design and make jewelleryfor The Vamoose.
Q. Your shop is so lovely! What drew you to jewelry making?
I studied Fashion Design at university, which may explain the use of fabrics in my work. After graduation, I became increasingly interested in jewellery design and it felt like a natural progression to change paths.
Q. What’s your favorite piece to make?
The ruffled fabric necklaces are some of my favourites. I enjoy the process of sculpting the fabric and dying it by hand. Each piece comes out slightly different. They’re so nice to have hanging around my workroom, sometimes it takes a little self-persuading to list them in the shop!
Q. What’s a normal day like for you?
Fulfilling orders takes priority. The rest of the time is spent replying to emails, working on new pieces, drinking copious amounts of tea and occasionally sneaking onto my Tumblr dashboard.
Q. What inspires you most of all?
Other people. Coming across incredible pieces of art, jewellery or clothing can have a really inspiring effect on me. Instead of feeling jealous and inferior, I’m often filled with motivation to better my skills and aim for something great.
