I used to think that taking photos of food was just the hardest thing ever! It was beyond my abilities and most of my shots turned out unappetizing or just a bit gross, if you know what I mean. But after lots of practice I think I’ve gotten a bit better and I hardly ever take a bite before grabbing the camera!
I think the three most important things for good food photos are: natural light, good framing and the right props. Next time you want to take a picture of that amazing pie or fantastic dinner, move the plate to a table near the window.
Play with different angles. I think the best way to do this is by looking through the viewer, don’t depend on the display screen. Move around and see what your shot would look like from the side, from above, etc.
The right props can help make the perfect shot. A small French loaf wrapped in a crisp kitchen cloth gives a feeling of right from the oven (and it was) warmth.
I probably have a zillion photos of Joel’s pizzas, but each one is a little masterpiece! This one had feta, tomatoes and fresh basil from the herb garden. Yum!
