weekend projects

We left Chicago Saturday morning at 2am-I know we are crazy people! But it actually made the drive go by quickly and the sunrise in Indian was so very pretty. All that to say my weekend project have all been done in a moving vehicle, but if I had had the time I would have started on a few summer sewing projects. I have been itching to pull out my sewing machine and make a dress and I think I’ve found the perfect pattern!

There are lots of things I love about knitting. I love how different fibers and gauges and stitches interact. And you proabbly don’t want to get me started on merino wool, cashmere, or alpacca yarns. I would probably bore you to death for hours! But my hands down favorite thing about knitting (this weekend anyway) is how

portable it is! I don’t like being idle so most of my weekend projects have been knitting related. I finished up one these hats for a friend, but in the softest gray…

…and I made about a zillion more cozies. I have a bunch of new colors coming to the shop soon!

I’ve also taken lots of photos with my Fuji Instax so once we get home and unpacked I’ll have those little guys to scan.

This might sound a little crazy, but I’ve been feverishly working on my cozy “stockpile”. Last winter I was knitting all during parties and family visits, trying to keep up with the avalanche of orders. It was nerve-wracking and I’d rather not do that again this year! So I’m thinking ahead (way ahead) and knitting now so I can relax later. And I’m dreaming of making pairs of these gorgeous mittens and socks for Christmas gifts. That might be just a bit too ambitious!

What a productive weekend! I finished up a batch of slouchy hats and cozies for City Bird. City Bird is this wonderful shop in Detroit that I would LOVE to visit some day. It looks so lovely!

I’ve had a little idea floating around in my sketchbook forever about using a duet of yarns to play up the natural heart shape that the stockinette stitch makes. I love seeing it in action! Now to get a few minutes to try it out for myself!

Today has been a day of wonderful good news. Joel was accepted to an MA program in media studies at The New School and we are crazy excited! This happy photo is exactly how I feel! I love all the colors and that cute little pug!

I’ve had an avalanche of Etsy orders which has kept me super busy and away from blogging quite as much as I would like. But don’t worry I have lots of fun things planned!

why hello, november

Oh my goodness, how is it November already? This month is going to be such a blur! I’ll be working on a wonderful wholesale order that I am so excited about, trying to get all of my Christmas presents made, and traveling to the beautiful mountains of West Virginia over the Thanksgiving holiday. There will certainly be many late nights, plentiful cups of coffee, beautiful friends to visit, and lots of memories to make. How is your November shaping up?

I fell in love with this gorgeous pattern from Brooklyn Tweed last Fall and this weekend I finally got around to knitting it up. This one is a birthday present for Joel’s sister, Grace. I hope she likes it!

This was my first time knitting a lace pattern and I was so surprised at how fun it is. I definitely need to do more of this kind of knitting in the future! This is the perfect weekend project for knitters and you can find the pattern over here.

Watching… Pride and Prejudice (the good one!).

Reading… my newest Nylon and The Girl with No Shadow.

Listening… to The Faces Down and Vampire Weekend (fab summer album and it certainly feels like summer here).

Drinking… delicious coffee in the morning and, sometimes, tasty blood-orange Italian soda in the afternoons.

Wanting… a bit of time and energy to finish up projects around the house (we are so close to the end of the renovation stage and the beginning of the decoration phase!), a few more veggie plants for our garden, and time to sew.

Trying… to remember to do my yoga each morning…
