I rediscovered the yarn this past weekend and I’ve almost finished the first glove. I love this pattern so I might write it up properly and share it here sometime.

The gloves have a simple horizontal ribbing at the wrist and a diagonal cable that wraps around the entire upper portion of the hand. The cable gives them a wonderful cozy, chunky-knit feel.

I might need to make myself a pair…

I’m also making up the pattern as I go along which has meant pulling the mittens apart and starting over a few times. But I like working that way. I am excited to share my first almost finished selbu mitten!

Snowflakes on the top,

a simple boarder on both sides,

and a repeating pattern on the palm.

I’m using the softest wool and I can’t wait to wear them soon!

It’s a pretty simple three stitch lace pattern with some ribbing. To keep things simple, I knitted it flat and just sewed up the ends. It was relaxing, repetitive project.

I can’t stop wearing it. It’s so warm and cozy!

Tomorrow I’m sure I’ll have tons of Williamsburg and Thanksgiving dinner photos to share, but for now I thought I’d share a few photos of the hat I made a few weeks ago.

Pattern: Porom by Brooklyn Tweed

Yarn: I used the beautiful, hand-dyed merino wool that I picked up in Madison a few months ago.

I managed to sneak in a little knitting, too. I tell myself it’s good for homework related stress and I think it’s totally true.

I’ve made over 25 slouchy hats, but this is the first one for myself. It’ll be done just in time for chilly weather!

Friday brought some good mail, a new and very appropriate tee-shirt for Joel. With both of us working full-time and being full-time grad students it does feel like all we do is work sometimes. (Via Jessica of Miniature Rhino fame)

And a Lizzy Stewart card for a friend arrived, too. I think she’ll love the otter!

This might sound a little nerdy or something, but Sunday evening we took a break from our work to get our new record player and vinyl situation set up. This led to re-organizing our bookshelves. I love how something so simple as moving books around makes the place look new! Photos to come!

Well, I need to get back to my schoolwork now. Maybe I’ll have a few bits and pieces to share soon. I’m extra shy about my work right now. Maybe because it’s all so new. (If you promise not to laugh, you can see my very first moodboard by clicking here.)

I haven’t figured out what I want to do with it. It was more than halfway to being a hat when I realized that orange on my ginger hair wasn’t the prettiest thing ever.

My goal is to have this yarn knitted up by the end of the month. Does anyone have an idea for what I should make? I’m taking suggestions!

Each page is a feast of textile inspiration. Volume 48 is an Autumn/Winter collection and it’s filled with so many thing that I think I’ll be knitting from it for years!

It’s hard to pick a favorite section, but I do lovely the chunky knits in the Nomad collection.

The Russian Doll creations are a wonderful mix of color and faire isle patterns.

There are so many more beautiful pages. If you’re a knitter I think you should make sure you get hands on an issue for cold weather inspiration.

The weather was rainy and ideal for  a Saturday morning coffee and breakfast at Barriques. I had some wonderful granola.

Afterwards, Katie took us to my new favorite place in the world, the Sow’s Ear. It’s a coffee and yarn shop, perfection!

We browsed their lovely selection and like always I knew I couldn’t leave without taking some new yarn with me, but it took awhile to decide which skein was the one for me. I always have this dilemma when I find myself in a yarn shop.

I finally picked a skien of hand-dyed, jade green merino wool. Oh it’s beautiful! It’s going to be a warm cowl for winter.

After yarn shopping we moved over to the coffee shop area and had some really great coffee. I’m picking about my coffee and the Sow’s Ear totally impressed. Katie had a chai,

I hade a breve latte,

And Joel had an americano. He was a good sport about all the yarn talk.

Katie and I both picked up a copy of Rowan knit and crochet magazine. The photos and projects are amazing, but more about that another day.

A favorite meal of mine: grilled cheeses (white cheddar, Munster and Jack) and a simple salad. Yum!

PS. I’ll have a PDF Cable Knit Cozy pattern coming to the shop on Monday. I’m working on a few more action photos and then it will be all shiny and nice.

This is the sleeve I’ve started on…

I love the color and feel of this wool. It knits up so wonderfully!

I’m flat knitting the whole sweater and then I’ll sew up the pieces. It’s based on two different patterns and I’m choosing my own combination of cables for the front. I’m so excited to see it finished, which hopefully will be in time for fall!
