interview: lobster & swan

I am so thrilled to introduce an exciting new weekly feature!  Each Friday I’ll be posting an interview with one of my favorite Etsy shops and I asked Jeska from the gorgeous Lobster & Swan to get us started. She was kind enough to answer a few questions and because she is so nice, she even offered a wonderful giveaway for one lucky reader!

Q. Could you tell us a little about yourself?
A. Hello! My name is Jeska, I am not eastern european as many suspect, but just the daughter of bohemian 1970’s parents. I count my lucky stars each day as I would have been called Ignatious if I was a boy, not even sure how one would spell that?! I like to use my free time making all kinds of things, edible for the table and decorative for the home.

Q. Your shop is so gorgeous! How do you describe your style?
A. Today I will describe my style as rustic heirloom but tomorrow who knows?

Q. I love the Estate Sale Lots that are currently in your shop. They are so inspiring! What is your approach to making them?
A. I have collected craft materials for years from all over the world. Tins of buttons, thread, sequins, vintage lace and more. I was feeling overwhelmed by all the supplies surrounding me and decided to share them in carefully selected colour collections that will hopefully inspire new people to make them into lovely things. They aren’t fulfilling their destiny squirreled away in my craft room.

Q. What inspires you most of all?
A. The small pleasures that can be found in everyday life, the feeling of finding a box of long forgotten treasures in an attic, I am also very interested in the delicate sensibility of japanese crafts, interiors and aesthetics, and not forgetting all the amazing blogs and their writers I have bookmarked.

  1. I love this!! what a great idea for a shop!

haha, ‘Ignatius’ is one of my favorite literary characters – from a really dorky Louisa May Alcott book I read in junior high. that name will always be friendly in my eyes.

one of my favorites of her shop has got to be her set of four cheerful postcards. her stuff is fantastic!

  2. How can you possibly choose? What’s there not to be adored in Jeskas shop? But I also love the Estate Sale Lots – they are pure colour therapy and the little boxes are brimming with ‘unleashed potential’. I believe there are little fairies living in the boxes waiting to come into exsistence.

  3. i have been reading lobster and swan for a while, and just love her ideas.
i have to say my favourite things are her garlands. i love them all. they remind me so much of being at regatta’s when i was little.
One day i’ll have a reason to buy a whole host of them.

  4. I am a long time reader of Lobster and Swan, and I love all her projects. They remind me of late nights with my Mum in her craft room, working on whatever new projects sprung to mind. All of the Estate Lots in her store now remind me of my Mum’s dressers in her craft room, filled to the brim with scraps of fabric, trim, bobbles, etc!

  5. HOW have I not seen this shop till now?! It’s wonderful! The postcards are great, wonder what kind of camera she uses for those perfect pics? I love the garlands, must go and get a ruler so I can figure out how long a certain one is to see if I can’t live with out it…

  6. i always love Jeska’s estate sale collections, though my current favourite is her original artwork ‘earth’. every little thing she does is magic.

  7. Wow! Great shop…so happy to find it! Love all the estate boxes of goodies but I think my fave is the Lovely Things that Can Make a Day postcard set! Great interview and giveaway! Glad to find your blog!

  8. I am so excited about this giveaway. I’ve been a big fan of the Lobster & Swan blog for a while now. Everything she makes and arranges is so beautiful. My fave is the Layers of Time garland. Bunting is so cheerful!

  9. i’m madly in love with jeska’s garlands for quite some time now, her “Layers of time garland” is my favourite item in her shop right now. i can’t imagine anything sweeter to have hanging on your kitchen or dinning room walls right next to photos of dear moments. 😀

  10. I love the Cheerful Set of 4 postcards!
Im so happy about this I visit Jeska’s blog daily and I love her etsy items!

  11. hey there waysideviolet and lobsterand swan. fan of you both:) i love the lovely things that can make a day postcards. beautiful. also the simple candy stripe garland.

  12. I’m really glad to discover her shop. The photos, details and care taken with each listing shows her passion and creativity.

My favorites are the buntings – almost a toss up between the blue one and the ‘layers of time garland’ – if I had to pick one, I’d pick the latter, as it is full of beautiful, delicate details and would go with almost any color scheme.

  13. Everything in her store is so delightful and inspiring. I’ve always thought it would be a joyful morning in my life if i woke up to find one of the cup cake postcards resting for me in my letter box.
