portland: hotel deluxe and case study coffee

The first half of our trip revolved around the Hotel deLuxe, where we stayed, and Case Study Coffee a short walk away, where we worked. The hotel is from the 1920s and has been updated with an old Hollywood glamour. Our room looked like something out of a wonderful old movie and the rest of the building was gorgeously gilt and art deco.

I took a lot of photos of the lobby because it is just so pretty.

Each resident floor is decorated with movie stills from a particular director. Hitchcock’s floor was my favorite.

The second best coffee I had while in Portland was at Case Study. Their downtown location is pretty gorgeous with lots of exposed beams and that sort of thing. They roast their coffee in house in small batches. (They have the smallest roaster I’ve ever seen!) I’m convinced that’s the tastiest way to roast coffee.

We were lucky to have pretty lovely weather while in Portland. Being around Portlanders though made me feel positively tan, which is ridiculous because I don’t really tan, just freckle.

Warning: I have lots more photos to post in the next few days.
