kitchen staple: vegetable stock
There are a several kitchen staples that I prefer to make rather than buy. I have a few reasons for this: I know exactly wants goes into something when I make, it can often be cheaper, but most of all, it’s the tastier way to do things.
One of my favorite things to make is vegetable stock. This comes in so handy during the winter months and it’s a good way to use up parts of vegetables you would normally throw out, like carrot tops. You can also improvise it with whatever you have on hand.
It seems like when the super hot temperatures hit Austin, we become accidental vegetarians. Nobody wants to stand over a hot stove and there are so many yummy veggies to be had. Over the weekend I saw this tabbouleh recipe over on Sous Style and had to give it a shot.
Tabbouleh is a type of salad and with tomatoes and things. It’s mostly a lot of chopping but all that work is worth it because it is so delicious.
The only big change I made to the recipe was using salted sunflower seeds rather than pomegranate seeds.
